My search for identity and belonging took a dangerous turn. I became known for fighting and chaos, eventually being arrested more than 20 times. At one point, I faced a four-year sentence.

The truth is, behind the bravado was deep depression. I reached a breaking point, attempting to end my life. Waking up in a hospital bed forced me to face the reality I had been running from.
The Challenges of Rebuilding After Prison
Many who leave prison struggle with the same barriers: no housing, no job, and stigma. According to the Centre for Mental Health, only 25% of prison leavers find work - a huge risk factor for reoffending.
Where to Find Support
Prison Reform Trust – advocating for fair treatment and providing guidance for those leaving prison.
ReCONNECT – an NHS service linking prison leavers with healthcare and community support.
St Giles Trust – offering peer mentoring and training to help people rebuild lives after custody.
My Reflection
Hitting rock bottom gave me the chance to ask: is this the life I want? That moment of clarity became the seed of change.
