Reclaiming Identity - Rugby, Bodybuilding & Redemption

Even after prison, I struggled with stigma. No matter how much I achieved; playing semi-pro rugby, becoming Mr. Wales in bodybuilding, in the eyes of many, I was still “that troublemaker.”
But slowly, through discipline, sport and faith, I began to reclaim myself.

Most importantly, I realised change wasn’t just about me. It was about using my experience to help others.
Systemic Barriers and Hopeful Solutions
Thankfully, change is happening across the UK, here are some of the great programmes across the country helping people re-build their lives:
Fishmongers’ Hall Heroes in Housing Project – offering peer-led housing for ex-prisoners.
Iceland’s Second Chance Partnership – now the UK’s largest recruiter of ex-offenders.
Cook’s RAW Programme – employing ex-prisoners and supporting rehabilitation.
My Reflection
What I learned is that redemption isn’t just personal, it requires society to give people a real chance.
